Review of the Panasonic Viera TX-P50S10b

In the battle between Plasma and LCD, Plasma has typically proven the better choice. With models like the Panasonic Viera TXP50S10, it’s not hard to see why. The model comes equipped with some impressive specs that help it to overcome some of the deficits commonly associated with this class of displays, while at the same time pushing the bar even further in terms of integration and functionality. Panasonic has managed to surprise us with a high-end flat panel TV that is more than just a showpiece.

The Viera TX-P50S10B’s picture quality is what really stood out for us. A contrast ratio of 2,000,000 to 1 (one of the highest on the market) gives the image a crisp black level and natural colour palette. It also has full HD resolution (1080p), the most up-to-date standard. At the moment a Blue-ray Disc player or an HD gaming console such as an XBox 360 is needed to take advantage of the set’s maximal resolution. These devices and other digital accessories connect via the system’s 3 HDMI ports.

Yet contrast ratio and resolution are only part of the battle. In part because the screen we are dealing with is so large, we need to address the issue of image flickering. A flickering image can ruin even the sharpest display. Panasonic has a multilevel approach to this problem. First, the 400Hz Sub-field Drive creates a smoother picture, by upping the refresh-rate to about 8 times that of a normal TV. Second, it employs Intelligent Frame Creation to generate new frames from existing frames in real-time, increasing sharpness on fast movement. Lastly, since the frame-rate of movies is different form that of TV, the Viera TX-P50S10B uses 24p Cinematic Playback to display films without any detriment to image quality.

Plasma TVs are often said to use up more energy than LCD displays. The “eco-mode” cleverly adjusts screen brightness based on measured ambient lighting in the room, to save energy while maintaining image quality. This feature is part of a new class of eco-friendly consumer electronics strategies designed for more sophisticated users who want to be green without appearing, well, green.

Another extremely useful feature is the Smart-Networking Viera Link system, which lets you use your Viera remote to easily connect and control all your digital audio-visual accessories. The Viera Image Viewer works in conjunction with this technology, to provide easy connectivity for your digital camera and camcorder.

The Panasonic Viera TX-P50S10B is a sound choice among higher-end flat screen systems. If Panasonic can continue providing high picture quality and innovative user-friendly features, it will remain a leader in the flat screen market for some time to come.

And there is more.

DMP-BDT100 – A Quick Overview of New “Cheaper” Panasonic 3D Blu-Ray Player

Panasonic came out with two new 3D Blu-ray Players in 2010, the DMP-BDT300 ($399.00) and the DMP-BDT350 ($429.99). While these are great 3D Blu-ray Players, Panasonic has released yet another new 3D capable Blu-ray Player, the DMP-BDT100. Listed at $249.95, the player, is a nice alternative to the higher priced 3D Blu-ray Players. While being a step down from the higher end models, the DMP-BDT100 still has a good combination of functions and features. Including excellent features that bring you great quality in both audio and visuals.

The 3D player has a smart, sleek looking design made up of a black finish and a silver strip running through the middle of the player. It does have a flap on the front of the panel that when lowered reveals a USB Port, SD Card Slot and some control buttons. This flap of course has to remain open when using the USB Port. The overall design is reminiscent of most Panasonic players, with the exception of the 3D Full HD logo located on the front.

VIDEO QUALITY: The DMP-BDT100 has the standard video connections of HDMI, Component Outputs and Composite Outputs. Unfortunately, unlike the higher end players, the DMP-BDT100 does not have dual HDMI 1.4 outputs, only a single. With a second HDMI output you can send the 3D video signal straight to your 3D TV via the HDMI 1.4 output and send your audio to your Audio/Video receiver via the HDMI 1.3 output.

While lacking this feature, the DMP-BDT100 single HDMI Output still handles both 1080p/24 and 1080p/60 video output resolutions. Like other Panasonic players, the DMP-BDT100 uses PHL Reference Chroma Processor Plus. This helps to greatly improve the color accuracy of your images. There is also the new P4HD Enhanced Full HD Upsampling. Taking standard DVDs and displaying them to near High Definition quality. Along with these features you have a few preset picture modes, user defined settings and some noise reduction modes, all design to give you the kind of image you want.

AUDIO QUALITY:Audio connections for the DMP-BDT100 include HDMI, optical Digital and 2.0-channel Analog Outputs. If you are looking for 7.1-channel Analog outputs, you will find them in the two higher end players, DMP-BDT300 and DMP-BDT350. The only way to produce the highest quality 7.1-ch surround sound is via HDMI. There is on board decoding for the high resolution audio formats, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio. It can pass these audio formats in their native bitstream form over a HDMI connection to your Audio/Video receiver, if you want them decoded externally. The player is not without its audio adjustment; there is dialog enhancement and you can choose various sound effect modes such as Night Surround or Re-master 1, 2, and 3.

BD, DVD, CD audio, AVCHD, Divx Plus HD, MKV, MP3 and JPEG playback are all supported by the DMP-BDT100. Playback of media files can be done through the SD Card slot or USB port. The USB port, located on the front panel, can also be used to connect a wireless LAN adapter for easy connection to the internet. There is an Ethernet Port located on the rear of the player if you choose a wired connection. But once connected to your Home Network you can access Online Streaming Services, DLNA media devices and BD-Live content.

However, when accessing BD-Live content you require at least 1GB of external storage memory from either a SD Card or USB flash drive. The DMP-BDT100 is lacking internal storage memory. It does have a sufficient Online Streaming Media Service in VIERA Cast. Giving you access to Amazon Video on Demand, Netflix, YouTube™, Dailymotion, Bloomberg, Picasa™ and other Internet web sites.

The 3D player is DLNA certified as well. But it will only playback media store on a networked Panasonic recorder. Video, music and Photos from your PC can not be accessed. On a more positive side, the DMP-BDT100 has a 0.5 Second Quick Start mode for very fast booting. Over all the DMP-BDT100 offers you a great alternative to the more pricey Panasonic 3D Blu-ray Players. You may lack some features, but the DMP-BDT100 3D Blu-ray Player should provide you with a very pleasant Blu-ray experience.

THE PROS: The Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Blu-ray Player supports Full HD 3D Playback, as well as 1080p/24 playback of 2D Blu-ray Discs. It has great audio, providing you with internal audio decoding and bitstream output for Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA. It also has support for Wi-Fi, BD-Live, VIERA Cast (Online Streaming) and DLNA streaming (Only from Panasonic Recorders).

THE CONS: The Blu-ray Player lacks the dual HTMI Outputs that will transmit two separate signals to your 3DTV and A/V receiver. It has no multi-channel analog audio outputs. Wi-Fi requires a USB LAN adapter that is sold separately. The player has no internal memory, so an external device such as a SD Card or USB flash drive is needed for accessing BD-Live content. DLNA streaming is limited.

THE FINAL WORD: The Panasonic DMP-BDT100 Blu-ray Player provides great HD audio and image quality. It has many great Blu-ray functions and features such as VIERA Cast, Wi-Fi ‘Ready’, BD-Live and of course 3D capability. The DMP-BDT-100 is considerably less expensive than Panasonic’s other 3D Blu-ray Players. (Keep in mind if you want to go wireless, you have to purchase a LAN adapter that will cost around $80.00) This should appeal to many consumers wanting to enjoy 3D images at home. – Price you should look for when purchasing — Under $250.00

Review of the Panasonic DMP-BD55K 1080p Blu-Ray Player

There are many Blu-Ray players on the market, and it can make a consumer very confused about which one to pick. In this article I will review the Panasonic DMP-BD55K 1080p Blu-Ray Player. This Blu-Ray player has many different features that people from novices to experts will enjoy.

This Blu-Ray player is available online for the suggested price of $400, but at some online retailers, it can be found for only $327. It is also available for free shipping at various retailers. You can use the money you save on this player to buy some new Blu-Ray DVD movies to play on it.

One of the features of this Blu-Ray player include a BD Live / 7.1 Lossless Decode and Analog Output. This helps the DVD’s to play with a reduction of skipping. This is especially useful for playing your favorite DVDs that have become a little scratched up. Nothing is worse than getting to a really suspenseful or action packed part of a movie, only to have it skip repeatedly and ruin the scene.

Another feature of this Blu-Ray player is a SD Card Slot. With this you can insert your Smart Media card from your cell phone, video camera, or digital camera and play saved movies, music, and pictures on your home computer. Since there is a slot for this, you don’t have to worry about setting up complicated cables and cords from your TV to your other electronic devices. You also won’t have to worry about getting adaptors to make sure that your movies and pictures will play correctly on the TV. This is a great idea for anyone who would like to do this, but may not be that technically inclined.

Also, with this Panasonic Blu-Ray player if you already have a VIERA Remote Control, it will be compatible through VIERA link. This will save you from having to set up a new remote control for this Blu-Ray player. It also won’t add another remote to your collection that will get lost, and cause you to search all over the house for it so you can watch your movie.

As with many Blu-Ray players, this Panasonic Blu-Ray player will show movies in unparalleled high definition color and sound. Your movies will show clearer, and more vibrant than ever! The sound output installed on this Blu-Ray player will rival any home theatre system you have. It will feel like you’re in your own personal movie theatre every time you watch it!

In conclusion, while looking online for a new Blu-Ray player, you should definitely give the Panasonic DMP-BD55K 1080p Blu-Ray Player a look. It can’t be beat for price, convenience, features, and reliability. It is sure to be an excellent source for entertainment for years to come!

The Panasonic Viera TX-P50X20B HD Ready Plasma TV

Choose a 50-inch Panasonic Viera TX-P37X20B Plasma TV if want to experience high-definition plasma TV pleasure without wetting your wallet too much.

A lot of UK outlets and stores are making this model available for £750 or less this 2010 spring season.

That you’ll be getting outstanding value for money is to make an understatement, if you look at the spec sheet:

- HD Ready, 5 million: 1 native contrast, 100Hz Double Scan, V-Audio Surround, VIERA Image Viewer (AVCHD/JPEG), VIERA Link, Smart Networking, Game Mode, VIERA Tough Panel; Mercury and Lead Free & Long Panel Life (Up to 100,000 Hours)

Move in for a closer inspection, and you will discover more value propositions:

1. The Panasonic TXP50G20B has groundbreaking THX picture and NeoPDP technology, for super clear pictures as well as excellent sound.

Contrast ratio of 5,000,000 to 1 (native) displays deep black and rich colours. The plasma panels are fabricated with the Real Black Drive system, which delivers unmatched rendition of black.

VIERA televisions are designed to render scenes the way the content’s director intended them to be, faithfully, even where achieving a proper balance of light and dark is a tricky challenge.

2. With a wide 178-degree view angle, more people around the room will be able to enjoy the brilliant plasma display.

3. Flicker-free images. Older generations of plasma displays used to be scanned at 50 Hz, yielding distracting flicker due to not enough frames being displayed each second. Now with 100Hz Double Scan, the Panasonic Viera TXP50X20B shows each frame twice, thus delivering more natural movement that is also better on the eyes.

4. Superb audio on the Viera TXP50X20B, equipped with THX Sound with V-Audio Surround and robust speakers, result in just the appropriate sound level for crystal clear fidelity.

5. Versatile connectivity is yours with four HDMI connectors (1 side, 3 rear) to support game consoles or Blu-ray players; component and composite jacks; SCART sockets for connecting older devices; and even USB. No TV should be an island these days; the Viera TXP50X20B is well-connected, for sure.

VIERA Link makes inter-connected audio visual devices a reality, using only the VIERA remote control to command all the devices linked to each other using an HDMI cable. Seamless inter-operability with LUMIX digital cameras also means that you can use the TV’s remote to take command over the playback of pictures stored in the camera.

The SD card slot makes it easy to share pictures and video on the large screen, and with VIERA Image Viewer, the TX-P50X20B can add custom music and frames to slide shows.

6. Nifty and nimble are the right words to describe the Viera TXP50X20B in Game Mode when hooked up to a game console.

7. Freesat and Freeview. The built-in tuning capability for Freesat and Freeview provide access to excellent high-definition programming in the free broadcast spectrum. Freeview is the UK’s major dishless digital television provider, while Freesat can beam 120 TV and radio channels to individual satellite dish receivers.

Panasonic has always been a brand known for its high performing yet affordable television sets, and the reputation certainly applies well to its plasma line. In the Viera TX-P50G20B, you have an outstanding high-definition plasma TV that will deliver that level-up viewing pleasure.
